The horses on this page are seeking homes through our Owner 2 Owner (O2O) Program; formerly known as the Maryland Equine Transition Service (METS). As the name of the program suggests, horses listed on this page are available to transition directly from their current owner to new owner, without going through DEFHR’s facility, ownership or Adoption Program. Horses placed directly from one home to the next have a higher likelihood of transitioning successfully. Removing intermediary steps such as auctions and rescues minimizes the stress on both owner and horse, mitigates the risks placed on horses needing homes, decreases the burden placed on welfare organizations who are at max capacity, and brings about constructive and proactive communication between owners. DEFHR’s O2O Program is a digital platform that provides owners with support to successfully find and transition their horses into new and safe homes. It also provides owners access to an inclusive community in which they can exchange history, photos, stories, and experiences of their horses. Along with an ongoing support for owners, engaging with DEFHR’s O2O Program immediately welcomes owners into the DEFHR family with full access to our team of experts and other resources.
