She's Offlee Wild is a gorgeous 2008, 15.3h registered Thoroughbred mare seeking a loving home as a companion or pleasure/trail horse for a confident intermediate rider.

Wild retired from racing in 2012 after 25 starts and career earnings of over $114,000 due to developing arthritis. She was then bred and produced one foal before enjoying life as a pleasure horse, spending time on the trails and participating in hunter paces. Due to her owner's need to downsize, Wild is now looking for someone who can offer her a soft place to land and continue enjoying her as a fun riding partner.

During our visit, Wild was bright, energetic, and respectful on the ground. Considering she was away from her normal routine and separated from her herd, she handled everything exceptionally well. With consistent handling, we think she'll settle in quickly and truly enjoy the attention and mental stimulation. She's a smart, willing mare who seems happiest when she has a job to do. Wild stood tied in the stall while being groomed and tacked up, picked up all four feet politely, and stood quietly for fly spray. She does have limited flexion in her right knee from an old injury, and arthritic changes are also present in her front fetlocks.

We were especially interested to see how Wild would feel under saddle given her arthritis, and she exceeded our expectations. If we hadn't known about her arthritic changes, we never would have guessed they were there. To help keep her comfortable for years to come, we recommend flatwork and trail riding rather than jumping. Wild was ridden both in the round pen and out in the field, where she appeared sound at the walk, trot, and canter. She started the ride feeling fresh but settled nicely as she went along. Her owner also introduced her to crossing a stream for the first time. Although she was initially hesitant, she willingly gave it a try and became confident after her first crossing.

It's also worth noting that this was Wild's first ride in three weeks, and before that she hadn't been ridden in years. Considering that, we were incredibly impressed with how sensible and willing she was under saddle. Wild is naturally more "go" than "whoa," making her best suited for a confident intermediate rider who enjoys a forward, responsive horse. Someone who appreciates an athletic, willing mare will have a lot of fun with her.

Wild lives outside 24/7 with both mares and geldings and gets along well in a mixed herd. She is currently barefoot, though she may benefit from front shoes if ridden regularly. She is up to date on farrier care and deworming, and her owner will update her vaccinations and Coggins before she leaves for her new home. Wild is an easy keeper who maintains her weight well on pasture without grain, though she may benefit from a joint supplement to help support her long-term comfort.
