This mare is one of nine horses currently available through our program after the unexpected loss of one owner left the remaining elderly owner unable to maintain their care. As she does not have a name, we are referring to her as #6. Her exact age is unknown; however, based on available information, we estimate she is between 10–20 years old and stands approximately 15.2–16hh.
#6 will require an experienced trainer or handler comfortable working with horses that have had limited formal handling. With consistent, knowledgeable handling, we see no reason why she won't make positive progress. Her training history is unknown, and we could not confirm whether she has been started under saddle. She appears sound and is solidly built, so with the right program, she shows clear potential to transition into a riding horse.
#6 maintains her weight well and appears to be an easy keeper. She is currently living out 24/7, barefoot and unblanketed, and has done well in this environment through the winter. At this time, she is not up to date on routine veterinary or farrier care beyond daily feeding, and her new owner should be prepared to address Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and hoof care. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings. We did observe minor scarring on her right eye; however, it appears superficial and does not seem to impact her vision.
For an individual with the experience and patience to invest in her development, #6 represents a promising opportunity. If you’re interested in learning more, we would be happy to speak with you.
