This mare is part of a group of nine horses currently available through our program after the passing of one owner left the remaining elderly owner unable to continue their care. As she does not have a name, we are referring to her as #7. Based on a brief dental assessment, we estimate her to be approximately 12 years old. She appears to stand between 15.2–16hh.

#7 was initially cautious during our visit but did allow herself to be caught and haltered with some patience. Beyond that, her level of handling and training is unknown. Due to her hesitancy and limited exposure, she would benefit from working with an experienced trainer or handler who is comfortable building confidence and establishing foundational skills with under-handled horses. With appropriate groundwork and time, she may be a candidate for further training. We did observe a scar on her right hind cannon; however, at the time of evaluation, she appeared sound and showed no visible signs of discomfort.

She is a sturdy mare who maintains her condition well and appears to be an easy keeper. Currently, she is living out 24/7, barefoot and unblanketed, and has done well in this environment through the winter. She is not up to date on routine care beyond daily feeding, so her new owner should be prepared to address Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and farrier needs. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings.
