This mare is part of a group of nine horses currently available through our program after the passing of one owner left the remaining elderly owner unable to continue their care. As she does not have a name, we are referring to her as #7. Based on a brief dental assessment, we estimate her to be approximately 10-12 years old. She appears to stand between 15.2–16hh.

#7 was initially cautious during our visit but did allow herself to be caught and haltered with some patience. Soon after she became (and remains) an in-your-pocket, middle-of-all-the-action, attention hog mare - in the best way! This girl wants to be with people all the time. She seems to lead well and picks up all four hooves, so we think this mare has had some work done with her in the past. It's just the extent of that work and experience that we don't know. Due to this unknown, she would benefit from working with an experienced trainer or handler who is comfortable assessing horses and determining the best course of training/retraining for this mare. With appropriate work and time, we really feel this mare could go far. We did observe a scar on her right hind cannon; however, at the time of evaluation, she appeared sound and showed no visible signs of discomfort.

She is a sturdy mare who maintains her condition well and appears to be an easy keeper. Currently, she is living out 24/7, barefoot and unblanketed, and has done well in this environment through the winter. She is not up to date on routine care beyond daily feeding, so her new owner should be prepared to address Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and farrier needs. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings.
