Identified as #8, this mare is part of a group of nine horses currently seeking placement through our program after the loss of one owner left the remaining elderly owner unable to continue their care. Her exact age is unknown, though we estimate she is approximately 10–15 years old, and she appears to stand around 15.2hh.

#8 required some initial patience to catch, but once haltered, she settled in quickly and grew noticeably more comfortable. As our visit continued, she became increasingly engaged and showed interest in being part of the activity. This progression suggests a mare who may simply need time and consistency to build confidence. She will benefit from working with an experienced handler or trainer familiar with developing trust and handling in horses with limited formal experience.

We do not believe #8 has been started under saddle; however, she appears to have a solid physical foundation and was observed to be sound at the time of evaluation. With appropriate groundwork and training, she presents as a suitable candidate for future undersaddle work.

She maintains her weight well and may be considered an easy keeper. Currently, she is living out 24/7, barefoot and unblanketed, and has adapted well to these conditions through the winter. At this time, she is not up to date on routine care beyond daily feeding. Her new owner should be prepared to bring her current on Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and farrier care. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings.
