This mare is one of nine horses currently seeking placement through our program following the tragic passing of one owner, which has left the remaining elderly owner unable to continue their care. As she does not have a name, we are referring to her as #3. While her exact age is unknown, we estimate she is approximately 10–15 years old and stands around 15.1-15.3hh.
#3 has had limited handling and we were told has not previously left the property. She will require a knowledgeable and patient trainer or handler experienced in working with unhandled horses and building foundational skills. Despite her lack of formal handling, she has had only positive exposure to people and presents as a friendly, people-oriented mare who is quick to approach—sometimes with an enthusiastic disregard for personal space. With consistency, she is expected to come along nicely. Once she establishes a solid groundwork foundation, she should be able to be started under saddle. She appears sound, is well-built, and, combined with her willing and curious nature, offers promising potential for the right program.
She maintains her weight easily and is currently living out 24/7, barefoot and unblanketed, having done well in this environment through the winter. At this time, she is not up to date on routine care beyond daily feeding. Her adopter should be prepared to bring her current on Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and farrier care. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings.
For an experienced individual ready to invest in her development, #3 represents a rewarding opportunity. If you’re interested in learning more, we would be happy to connect with you.
