Registered as Who Matters, but affectionately known around the barn as “Big Boy” or simply “Big,” this 2008 Thoroughbred gelding lives up to his nickname in both size and personality. Standing an impressive 18h tall, Big is a striking, good-natured horse who enjoys being part of a herd and interacting with the people around him. During his time at the track, Big made 19 starts and earned over $16,000, before transitioning into a quieter lifestyle off the racetrack. Following his racing career, he spent some years being ridden primarily on the trails. He is now seeking a new home where he can live out his golden years strictly as a companion horse, ideally with his best friend Bob (also available through our program).

Big thrives in a turnout-based environment and currently lives outside 24/7 with other geldings. He sits toward the top of the herd hierarchy, but remains playful and social with his pasture mates, often engaging in friendly games and interactions. During inclement weather, he is happy to come into a stall as needed.

Big does require some ongoing maintenance to keep him feeling his best. He has asthma that is managed with a simple routine of albuterol syrup (two weeks on, two weeks off). He is also treated for Cushing’s disease, which is currently well-controlled with no outward symptoms. Additionally, he has chronic dermatitis on one leg that requires daily monitoring and treatment if flare-ups occur. Big is also considered a moderate-to-hard keeper, so he benefits from attentive feeding management.

Despite these manageable needs, Big remains a bright, engaging horse with a big personality to match his size. His playful nature with other horses and steady demeanor make him a rewarding horse for someone who appreciates a gentle giant. He is also barefoot and UTD on all care and Coggins.

Big would do best with a knowledgeable owner who understands his maintenance routine and is looking for a large, personable gelding to enjoy and care for. He is the first to greet you at the gate and loves to hang his head out of his stall to say "hi". His owner feels he may be a great horse for someone wanting to dabble in ground work or liberty training.

Big offers companionship, presence, and the kind of personality that quickly makes him a barn favorite. If you want to add him (and maybe Bob) to your barn, inquire today and let's chat!
