Derwoodbob, better known simply as “Bob,” is a 16.2h Thoroughbred gelding born in 2005 who brings plenty of personality wherever he goes. Bob may not have spent long on the racetrack—earning just $400 in 3 starts—but what he lacks in racing credentials he more than makes up for in character. In his post-racing career, he spent time primarily as a trail horse, however it has been 4-5 years since he was consistently ridden. He is now seeking a home (ideally with his best friend Big - also available through our program) where he can be a non-riding companion horse.
Bob is a goofy, social horse who genuinely enjoys interacting with both people and other horses. He thrives in a herd environment and is often seen playing and socializing with the other geldings in his field. In fact, one of his favorite pastimes is rolling in the sand alongside his best friend, Big, much to the amusement of anyone watching from the fence line.
Within the herd, Bob tends to fall toward the more dominant side of the hierarchy, but he manages his role fairly and maintains a playful relationship with the other horses. He enjoys activity and engagement, and his curious personality often shines through during daily interactions.
Handling Bob is rarely dull—in the best way possible. He can be a little wiggly during grooming, shifting and fidgeting as if he simply can’t contain his enthusiasm for attention. It’s an endearing quirk that perfectly reflects his fun-loving nature.
Bob would be a wonderful candidate for someone interested in groundwork, liberty work, or building a relationship-focused partnership. His social personality and playful curiosity make him a horse who enjoys mental engagement and interaction.
Like many Thoroughbreds, Bob does come with a few manageable quirks. He can sometimes be a picky eater, so he benefits from a feeding program that keeps him interested and maintaining good condition. He also tends to have sensitive, itchy skin, particularly during the warmer months when sweet itch can flare up. With attentive management during bug season, he remains comfortable and happy. That being said, Bob is barefoot and UTD on all care and Coggins, so he's ready to go!
Overall, Bob is a big personality in a handsome Thoroughbred package—a horse who loves companionship, enjoys being part of a herd, and brings a sense of humor to everyday barn life. For someone looking for a social, expressive gelding with plenty of character, Bob is sure to keep you smiling.
