Sugar Rye Rye is a 2009, 16.1h registered Thoroughbred gelding seeking a new home at no fault of his own. Sugar is a MD-bred OTTB with 4 starts, 1 third and a career earning of almost $2,400. He last raced in 2012 and was eventually transitioned to the hunter show ring. His current owner purchased him one year ago as a horse for their teenage daughter to show. After a great season of bringing home ribbons in the hunter ring, Sugar started having issues with bucking at the canter and was subsequently diagnosed with Kissing Spine. His vet did state that he may be a candidate for surgery, if someone wanted to pursue continuing to ride him, but he could also be a great companion horse.

We first met Sugar in his stall, where he was standing quietly and greeted us in a curious and engaging manner. He was easily caught and lead to cross-ties in a grooming stall down the aisle. Sugar was a bit wiggly while standing to be groomed, but mostly because he was looking for treats! He picked up all four hooves and was overall a very well-behaved boy for both grooming and leading around the farm.

Sugar is UTD on everything and ready to go. He stands well for the vet and farrier, ties, loads, stalls, bathes and clips. His owner is unaware if he has ever been turned out with mares and he tends to keep a neutral position in the herd. He does crib, but it is well-controlled with a collar. Sugar is currently turned out on minimal grass and receives two grain meals per day, along with a Cosequin joint supplement. If turned out on more grass, we would imagine his grain meals could be decreased. Sugar currently has basic front shoes and is blanketed over the winter months.
