Samson puts the "gentle" in gentleman and he truly lives up to that title. This 20+ year old, 16.2h Draft gelding has lived a life filled with its ups and downs, and he's now looking to find a home where he can finally settle, relax and enjoy retirement. It is thought that Samson spent his younger years as an Amish workhorse before eventually finding his way to auction. Luckily, he was purchased by someone who had great intentions toward him, but had difficulty managing his needs and surrendered him to his current home as a camp horse. Due to a chronically laminitic and foundered right front hoof, he cannot be used for camp as intended and he is not doing well living a retired life of 24/7 turnout, particularly during these hot days full of sun and flies. So he's now looking for a life of luxury, where he can live in the comfort of shade, fans and fly protection during the warmer months.

Due to Samson's hoof, he is not currently comfortable enough for riding. However, with further diagnostics, corrective farrier care and a change of environment, his comfort level may be able to be improved to handle light walk-only or pony rides. He is definitely quiet enough to be a great mount for a more beginner rider, but his comfort is what's most important.

Samson would make a wonderful companion for any horse. He's currently turned out with both mares and geldings, and his best friend is a pony. He's also great for working with on the ground. He ties, sprays, bathes, stalls and loads without issue. He can be pushy with leading, since he's big and he knows it, but someone with a little strength wouldn't have an issue if they can contain their laughter as he takes them on a slow tour of the farm!

Samson has a hard time dealing with the heat and bugs of summertime. Keeping cool is hard for his big, older body and his skin is sensitive to the flies. So he'd do best in a home that can put him comfortably up in a stall or run-in with fans and lots of fly protection. UTD on everything but a Coggins, which his owner is willing to pull prior to placement, this boy is ready to go to his new home.

Samson's wise, kind eye won us over immediately and we have no doubt he'll win you over as well. If you have room in your heart and your barn to give this boy a final place to live out his days, inquire about him and let us know!
