Ford is a 2005, 16.2h registered Thoroughbred gelding who won over $50,000 at the track before retiring from racing in 2008. He spent subsequent years being used for lessons and shows. He was ridden both English and Western, knowing both disciplines riding aids, but his way of going does lean more toward English. Ford has also been used on the trails. In 2020, Ford was diagnosed with EPM for which he was successfully treated. He has been out of work since that time and will need a gradual reintroduction to work to recondition and build his strength. His owner is hoping to find someone who can invest the time and attention into him that he deserves and craves.

Ford is a very nice boy to work around on the ground. He ties for grooming, picks up all four hooves and stands for fly spray. He can be a little shy around his poll, but allows it. He stands very quietly for tacking and untacking.

We observed Ford being ridden for the first time in over a year and he truly did very well! Clearly he is a horse who does not have to be ridden frequently to maintain a good mind. He stood still for mounting and went walk/trot/canter with ease. Ford does naturally have a more forward movement, so would be best for an intermediate rider. A beginner may do well with Ford, but we advise they have the help of a trainer or instructor. This boy would be great for someone wanting to ride English (or Western) pleasure or trail. He may even still enjoy going to some shows, if that's an interest.

Ford is currently turned out with a mare and does very well. He can be a bit herd-bound, which is to be expected when you have just two horses. This would probably improve with a larger herd and/or a more regular work schedule. He is currently maintained on Equioxx and whatever is left is welcome to go with him to his new home. Ford receives one meal of senior feed per day. He is barefoot, sound and overall easy to manage. He is updated on everything but a Coggins, which his owner is willing to have done prior to him going to his new home.

Hit that inquire button and let us know if you feel you could give Ford the excellent new home he deserves!
