UPDATE 4/1/24: Remy's owner just checked in with us to let us know that he's doing well while he patiently awaits his new home. He had a successful schooling session at Schooley Mill in January, where he worked in the arena, walked the x-country field and stepped over some small jumps there. His owner feels he may be up for doing some more cross-country for someone wanting a project. She feels he may also do great with someone interested in natural horsemanship. Regardless, it's obvious that Remy thrives on having a structured program, where he can be worked with regularly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Paynter Town Guy, loving called "Remy", is a handsome Kentucky-born 15.3h, 2017 registered Thoroughbred gelding seeking a special new home. Last raced in 2019, Remy was retired after 3 starts and career earnings just shy of $1,000. After a brief stint in Virginia, Remy landed with his current owner. It is suspected that Remy may have been mishandled at some point in his short life prior to his current home. Reactive and devoid of confidence, his owner has been devoted to not only giving him education, but also confidence, both on the ground and under saddle. Remy has come a very long way under the guidance of his owner and a professional trainer, but will continue to need someone with both the experience and patience to work at his pace and guide him along throughout life. He is a smart guy who does best with activities that stimulate and use his brain.
Since December 2022, Remy has received professional training with Ali Calkins of Forward Strides, LLC. He goes walk, trot, canter, over small jumps and may even throw in a surprise auto-change. Remy has had limited experience on the trail and has been mostly ridden in both indoor and outdoor arenas. His owner makes a point of lunging him before getting on to enable him to get all (or most) of his "wahoo's" out before getting on. Remy is a very nice mover and carries himself well. He has a great foundation and would excel with someone who can continue to bring him along in a calm, unrushed manner. He may do well in dressage, some jumping or maybe even dabbling in a little eventing.
Remy's has the same need for a patient handler on the ground. He can react to sudden movements and elevated emotions from the people around him. A quiet, gentle farrier is a must. Remy does best when worked with slowly and allowed a chance to check out new things and experiences before proceeding forward.
Remy is great with both mares and geldings, and tends to fall on the bottom of the totem poll within the herd. He stalls, cross-ties, blankets, loads and bathes. He can be a bit wiggly for fly spray. He is currently being managed with regular body work and receives monthly Adequan injections to address mild arthritis in his hock. He wears front shoes with rim pads for additional support.
If you have the experience, patience and dedication to give Remy a loving and lifelong home, be sure to inquire about him. He will certainly try his heart out for you! His price may be negotiable to the perfect home. Let us know if interested!
