Kendal is a sweet approximately 16h Oldenburg mare seeking a home as a companion or pleasure horse. Her owner believes her to be in her mid-late teens, but she may be older. Once ridden in Hunters, Kendal has not been under saddle in at least 5 years, so she will need a refresher. Her owner states that when she was being ridden, she tended to be quiet and easy. Due to age and physical limitations, her owner is proactively seeking a home for her and her buddy, Hippo (also listed through our program), where she will be loved as she deserves.

Upon our visit, Kendal and her friends decided to play hard-to-get, but came willingly into their stalls. She was haltered easily and stood untied while she was groomed. She picked up her feet with ease and was overall very nice to work around. Kendal has a kind eye, but does seem to lack some confidence in new situations. So she'd do best with an owner who will take their time with her and offer her plenty of reassurance. We did notice what appeared to be some cataracts in both eyes, which may contribute to what her owner described as hesitancy to enter the barn or a trailer on occasion. We didn't see this demonstrated upon our visit and she walked into the barn several times without issue.

We did not get to see Kendal ridden, but her owner states that she used to be an easy ride and was ridden primarily Hunter up until about 5 years ago. We would recommend that she be ridden by a more experienced rider, or one with a trainer's assistance, at least initially until her behavior can be determined. She comes across to us, though, as one who would pick things back up with ease. She truly does seem like a sweetie who would try her heart out to do well for her person.

Kendal is good for the vet and farrier, behaves well in a stall, and gets along with both mares and geldings. She's barefoot and lives outside 24/7. UTD on shots and her owner is willing to draw her Coggins before she leaves.
