Finn is a strikingly handsome ~13 year old, 16.1h Thoroughbred gelding. We were told his registered name is Blitzen, but have been unable to confirm. After the track, Finn was brought to his current home with his buddy, Henry (also listed and available). His owner has primarily ridden him on the trail in Western tack, although he is most familiar with English aids. His owner has moved and is unable to take Finn (and Henry) with him, so is seeking an excellent new home for his beloved boys.
When we visited with Finn, he hadn't been ridden in about three months. He accepted tack well, although he did make a couple faces during cinching. Finn stood quietly for mounting. He was wiggly under saddle and also tossed his head a bit, but all things considered did very well for not being ridden in so long. Finn has a ton of potential and would do very well with someone who has the time and experience to bring him along. He's rusty with his aids and comes across as green, but willing. Under the right guidance, this boy could probably go in any direction. His owner has ridden him primarily in Western tack, as that is their preference, but we were told Finn is an "English horse". He really does have a ton of potential to be a great horse for an English rider. He also apparently doesn't bat an eye out on the trail and can be ridden alone. So he'd also make a great trail/pleasure horse! He requires an upper intermediate or above rider, at least for now until he gets more consistent work and miles under his belt.
Finn stands well for grooming, picked up all four hooves with ease, did great for tacking and really enjoyed the hose on the hot day we were there! He was very good about leaving his herd, although he did not like being put in his stall while his friends were outside. Can't say we blame him. Finn is barefoot with good, solid feet. Despite an old, set bow on the left front, he appeared sound and his owner said the bow has never caused him an issue. He is updated on shots, Coggins and hooves. He will need a dental and deworming.
If you have the time and ability to bring this boy along, we think you'd really be in for a treat. Let us know if you think you're Finn's special someone!
