Directory, lovingly known as Pete, is a beautiful 2011, 15.1h registered Thoroughbred gelding seeking a home as a companion. There is the possibility he could be ridden, but more on that in a bit. After retiring from the track in 2015 and career earning of over $35,000, Pete was then retired from the flat track and moved on to hurdles, before retiring to start a career of foxhunting.

Pete's current owner purchased him two years ago with the intention of him being her next foxhunter. He was sent to a local professional trainer for 8 months to establish good behavior, both on the ground and under saddle. While his behavior did improve, he still showed an unpredictability both on the ground and under saddle. After a vet exam, it was determined that Pete has Kissing Spine. His owner took the approach of conditioning to strengthen his topline, as well as steroid and Osphos injections to improve his comfort level. When injected, Pete showed great improvement, but the behaviors would return when the effects would wear off. Pete's vet did feel that he could be a candidate for Kissing Spine corrective surgery, but that is something his owner cannot do.

Pete may be rideable if his new owner is able/willing to invest in corrective surgery. If he fully recovers, he would need someone able/willing to invest in further training for him to get him reconditioned and back into work. An advanced rider would be best suited.

That being said, Pete could also be a lovely companion horse. It is clear that Pete is very smart, engaging, and motivated by treats. So he could be a great project horse for someone interested in training on the ground, such as liberty work or trick training. He would be best suited for an intermediate handler.

Since being out of work, Pete has transitioned over to being fully barefoot and is doing very well. He stalls, bathes, clips, picks up all four hooves, and is good for the vet and farrier. He can lack a little confidence when alone and does best when with a buddy. Pete has been kept with mares before, but that did bring out more of his herd-bound behaviors. So he'd be best managed with just geldings. Pete is 100% UTD on everything and ready to go! He will also come with 3 variously weighted blankets and a fly sheet.
