Collector’s New Coin, affectionately known as Jay, is a handsome 2001, 15.2h registered Tennessee Walking Horse gelding looking for a loving new home. Jay’s owners have cherished him for many years, but after the loss of his only pasture companion and with their own advancing age, they are unable to provide him with another equine friend. Their top priority is finding Jay a safe, happy home where he’ll have companionship and continued care.

Jay is gaited, smooth, and a pleasure to ride. He was ridden during our recent visit—his first ride in well over a year—and handled it beautifully. He was primarily ridden in a paddock and was more “whoa” than “go,”. However, his owners informed us that he can be forward and a little “looky” on the trail, but he’s sensible and responsive with a confident rider. We did see he was more willing to move forward once walking out of the paddock and back to the barn, so he has it in him! We'd recommend that he be best suited for an intermediate rider, who can handle both when Jay is feeling a bit lazy and when he's ready to go.

Overall, Jay is a gentleman to work around while handling and grooming. That being said, he does have a touch of stubbornness that many older horses being brought out of retirement tend to have. It’s not mean-spirited, just his way of reminding everyone that he has opinions too. He can be sticky about picking up his feet and likes to give you a challenge with accepting the bit. All that being said, someone with a little experience and patience shouldn’t have much trouble, and once he’s back in a regular routine, he should remember that cooperation has its perks (especially when treats are involved).

Jay is a fairly easy-keeper for a horse of his age. He lives out 24/7 with free access to a stall, is barefoot, and is up to date on farrier care. This wise gentleman would thrive in a home where he can have companionship with another horse and enjoy a quieter pace of life with someone who appreciates his years of experience and endearing touch of sass.

If you’re looking for a sweet, well-cared-for gelding with a smooth gait, a big heart, and just enough personality to keep things interesting—and can offer him the companionship he deserves—please reach out for more information about Jay!
