If you’re looking for a kind, soulful partner with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Chewie (registered as Chewbacca Skippabar) might be your guy. Standing around 14.1 hands, this large Paint pony gelding has done it all — lessons, cross-country, therapeutic riding, trail adventures, and even a few fun shows. Now due to his owner having to relocate, he’s ready for his next meaningful chapter with a new special forever person.

Chewie is circa 2005 and has been loved by his current owner since he was just 3 years old. Over the years, he’s been the reliable starter horse, a steady partner for lessons, and even a gentle therapy companion. Though he can’t jump anymore due to mild navicular changes, he’s healthy, happy and enjoys life with simple, consistent care. His navicular is managed beautifully with regular trims every 5-6 weeks and one tablet of Equioxx every other day.

Chewie has a personality that’s impossible not to fall for. He’s a fun mix of wise and playful — he dances, knows how to kiss, and will even lift his foot when he wants attention or a treat. He’ll come running when you whistle, often leaving his hay just to say hello. When something startles him, he plants his feet and thinks it through rather than reacting — a thoughtful, trustworthy partner who wants to do the right thing. Out on the trail, he’s a reliable companion, though he’ll tell you that ponds with ducks are a bit suspicious after a past encounter. He’s well-behaved on the ground, loads right into a trailer, and handles new situations with quiet confidence.

In his herd, Chewie is the “security blanket” — kind but confident. He tends to take care of the lower horses while still being assertive when needed. He’s handled transitions and new herd introductions with grace, and his gentle but smart nature makes him easy to love.

Health-wise, Chewie is in good shape for his age. His teeth were checked this spring and didn’t need floating, and he's UTD on everything else. He's an easy-keeper and would do best turned out with free access to shelter, as his pink skin can be a little sensitive to the sun at times.

Chewie isn’t ready for full retirement — he still enjoys light riding, leisurely trail rides, and spending time with people. He’d thrive with a confident, compassionate advanced beginner or above rider who wants a true connection with their horse. He’s the kind of partner who will meet you at the gate, listen when you talk, and remind you what makes horses so special.

His current owner is relocating and simply wants peace of mind knowing Chewie will be cherished in his next home. He has spent his life helping others; now Chewie deserves someone who will give that love back.
