Birdie may be a ‘plain’ bay but there is nothing plain about this striking mare with expressive eyes.
She is currently under saddle walk/trot and we are introducing the canter slowly. She is a bit unbalanced and on the forehand in the canter so with an experienced rider or an intermediate rider with a trainer, her canter should continue to develop nicely. She is lovely to work with walk/trot/canter on the lunge line and long-lines.
Birdie is generally very quiet and laidback, especially for a 6 year old OTTB mare, and has been easy to work around while tied for grooming and tacking. She can have days where she’s a little sassy with ear pinning behavior but we think most of the behavior is when she thinks she can get away with it with less confident handlers.
We think she’ll make a really nice riding horse for someone that wants to dabble in lower level dressage and ring work. Birdie is typically more whoa then go. She is learning to connect in the bridle some and has been very fun and handy to ride. She’s not been out on the trails yet but she has a confident and brave demeanor perfect for exploring.
