Argo is a 17-year-old, 16.2h Warmblood mare searching for a home where she can exhale and just be. She is offered strictly as a companion — not for riding — and would thrive with someone experienced, confident, and willing to invest time, patience, and compassion into earning her trust.

This girl has lived a lot of life. Before her current owner brought her home roughly ten years ago, Argo bounced from home to home — at least six in total — often lasting no more than a few months in each. That history, and the unpredictable behavior she exhibits under saddle, suggests that she may carry trauma from past handling or riding. After starting basically from scratch with her and working hard for three years, her owner was unable to help Argo completely overcome her past. And because of this, her owner refuses to let her go to a riding home; it would simply not be fair to ask her to relive what she has worked so hard to leave behind.

But remove the saddle, and Argo becomes a very different horse.

Once she bonds with someone, Argo tries her heart out. She is incredibly responsive to vocal cues and has a wonderful foundation in round pen communication. She is smart, engaged, and reads people beautifully — traits that would make her a joy for liberty enthusiasts or someone interested in trick training. She is genuinely delightful to work with on the ground, especially when handled by someone who takes their time, listens to her, and gives her a chance to feel safe in their presence.

Argo lives outside 24/7, is barefoot, and UTD on everything. She grows a lovely fuzzy winter coat and doesn’t require supplements. She has been turned out with mares only and typically lands in a dominant role, so she would be best suited to a herd that will gladly accept her leadership. She ties, bathes, loads, sprays, and is good for the vet and farrier when given the time she needs. She has also been around her owner’s children and has always been gentle, respectful, and aware of them.

Argo simply needs someone who will accept her for exactly who she is — not who they hope to mold her into. Someone who will enjoy the quiet victories, who understands that connection takes time, and who believes a horse’s worth isn’t defined by what they can do under saddle.

If you’ve been looking for a partner to share space with, to grow with, and to love from the ground, Argo may be the mare who has been waiting for you just as much as you have been waiting for her.
