This mare, identified as #10, is part of a group of nine horses currently seeking placement through our program following the loss of one owner, which has left the remaining elderly owner unable to continue their care. While her exact age is unknown, we estimate she is likely in her late teens to twenties. She appears to stand approximately 15.2–16hh.

#10 presents as a particularly kind and gentle mare. Although initially hesitant, she allowed us to approach her with a bit of patience and quietly accepted touch from her head to her shoulder, clearly enjoying the attention and scratches. While we were not able to halter her during our visit, her demeanor suggests a soft nature that would benefit from consistent, experienced handling to help her build confidence.

Based on her presentation, we suspect she may have had some level of prior handling or training earlier in life, possibly on the track, though this could not be confirmed. She will require a knowledgeable trainer or handler experienced in working with under-handled horses to further assess her training and help her progress. We did observe a scar spanning from mid-cannon to fetlock on the right hind, which appears to be fully healed with recent reopening and slight swelling in the fetlock; however, she appeared sound at the time of evaluation and showed no obvious signs of discomfort.

This mare is currently on the leaner side and may be considered a moderate keeper. She is living out 24/7, barefoot and unblanketed, and has managed in this environment through the winter. At this time, she is not up to date on routine care beyond daily feeding. Her new owner should be prepared to address Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and farrier needs. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings.
