GETTING STARTED
Step 1

Attend a “Welcome to DEFHR” Orientation Session

Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) holds “Welcome to DEFHR” Orientation Sessions twice a month for individuals interested in volunteering. During this orientation, prospective volunteers are introduced to DEFHR’s mission and unique relationship with animal protection agencies. Attendees will also take part in a farm tour and learn more about individual volunteer roles.
Future Orientations

DATES: 2nd Saturday and 4th Tuesday each month

TIME: 10:00 AM (approximately 90 minutes)

LOCATION: DEFHR’s main facility (1372 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, MD 21797)

PARKING: Free parking is available onsite with spots reserved for handicapped guests.

WHAT TO WEAR: For safety reasons, guests are required to wear closed-​toe shoes. Please check weather forecasts as portions of the orientation occur outdoors.

REGISTRATION: Please include the full names, home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of ALL individuals attending. If you are registering for children under 18, please include their age. A parent or guardian must attend orientation with children under 18.

Step 2

receive Hands-​on training

Upon completing the “Welcome to DEFHR” orientation session, you will receive an email with a link to sign up for a “Hands-​on Horse Orientation”. This is the second and final step of the volunteer training process. During this small group training session, you will walk through a typical volunteer shift and learn the daily volunteer tasks.
Step 3

Create an account

Once you have complete the “Hands-​on Horse Orientation”, you will receive an email with directions on how to sign up for our volunteer tracking system. This is how you will sign up for available volunteer opportunities and log your hours.

Step 4

start volunteering

Once you’ve completed both training sessions and created an account, you’re an official DEFHR volunteer! We are open for volunteers every day of the week, pending weather emergencies.
