Field Trips
Description

DEFHR welcomes field trips to its main facility in Woodbine, MD, allowing students and teachers to experience a day of learning at the farm. As a Maryland Horse Discovery Center, DEFHR welcomes children of all ages to the farm to learn all about horses in a fun and interactive way.

Field trips are available for all grade levels. Groups of between 20-75 people may be coordinated.

Typical Day Schedule

A typical schedule for the day includes (times may be flexible):

  • 9:45 AM: arrival and check-in
  • 10:00 AM–noon: activity rotations—Students are divided into groups to move through a series of learning activities around the facility. Topics covered include:
    • Facility tour
    • Minimum standards of care for horses
    • Grooming a horse
    • Leading a horse
    • Riding demonstration

DEFHR has a spacious pavilion and grassy lawn available for groups to enjoy a picnic lunch following the learning activities. However, DEFHR does not provide any meals to tour groups.
