If you're looking for a horse with a fun personality who genuinely enjoys getting out on the trail, Hyde could be your guy! Hyde is a lovely 15h, circa 2011 grade Quarter Horse gelding seeking a home where he can enjoy life as a light trail and pleasure horse.

Hyde's owner purchased him from a barn that retrains auction horses, so not much is known about his history and he did not come with papers. Since having him, his owner has enjoyed riding him on the trails, including with her daughter and her horse. More recently, however, she has not been able to ride nearly as much, and feels Hyde would do best in another home that can give him the attention and companionship he loves and deserves.

Hyde is phenomenal on the trail, and we got to witness that firsthand when we visited him. He happily headed out to see the sights and sounds of the great outdoors and handled hills, uneven terrain, mud and water with ease. He's not a fan of arena work and would much rather be out exploring. That being said, he will tolerate riding in the arena just fine. He just prefers to explore the great beyond. Hyde has been ridden both English and Western and will trail ride alone or with other horses. He's got a nice forward walk and can be sensitive to his rider's aids, so an experienced rider who is comfortable with a forward, responsive horse would be the best fit for him. Although he'd probably be fine for a more beginner rider on a lead/lunge line or closely supervised.

Hyde even participating in the Lisbon Christmas Parade recently and did very well! There was some excitement during the event with some loose horses and he handled in with ease. So this boy is brave, confident and really enjoys getting out and about.

These days, Hyde is looking for a light riding home. His current hoof management includes wedge front bar shoes to help manage his navicular changes, but he remains somewhat sore, so he is best suited for light (primarily walk) trail/pleasure riding rather than a more demanding riding program. He is not currently receiving daily anti-inflammatory medication, leaving room for additional management options to be considered with his veterinarian if needed to improve his comfort.

Ongoing, thoughtful farrier care will be an important part of keeping Hyde comfortable. He would benefit from a farrier experienced with navicular horses who is willing to continue evaluating and adjusting their trimming/shoeing as needed, with an emphasis on good heel support, sufficient breakover at the toe, and appropriate hoof angles. His comfort and soundness should be considered when determining the amount and type of riding that is appropriate for him.

While Hyde does have some ongoing maintenance needs, he is otherwise pretty much ready to go! He is up to date on his routine care and vaccinations and is only in need of a dental at this time.

And then there's Hyde's personality! This boy is a total goober with an in-your-pocket personality on the ground. He LOVES people and attention and is the type of horse who will enthusiastically approach anyone to see what kind of treats they may be hiding for him. He'll even put on a show and give you a smile on command! With his love of people and willingness to interact, he could also be a fun candidate for liberty or trick training if his new person wanted to explore that type of work.

Hyde is also an easy-keeper and has been most comfortable living turned out 24/7, where he is able to move around. He has lived with geldings and tends to take a more submissive role in the herd. It is unknown how he does with mares.

Hyde is looking for someone who will appreciate his fun personality and love of trail riding while being committed to managing his navicular and keeping him comfortable. With the right person and an appropriate workload, Hyde could make a wonderful light trail and pleasure horse and a very entertaining companion.
