Amelia Mar is a beautiful Kentucky-bred 2010, 16h registered Thoroughbred mare seeking a home as a non-riding companion. Amelia was retired from racing in 2015 after 34 starts, 5 wins, and earning over $136,000 total during her four years at the track. After retirement, her owner took her to some local shows and rode her on the trails, but her clubbed left front hoof started to limit her comfort under saddle and her owner eventually decided to retire her. She was bred once and had a hard birth, so she was not bred again. She is now seeking a new home as a companion horse due to her owner's need to downsize their herd.

Amelia seems to be a very sweet mare who would enjoy more regular attention. She comes in from the field when called and also has an itchy spot on her neck - if you scratch it she'll be your best friend! When we visited, she was working on an abscess on her clubbed left front hoof, so we were unable to pick up her right front. However, she was good for picking up all other feet. Due to being alone in the barn, she was a little nervous and wiggly, but still stood well for grooming and fly spraying while straight tied in the stall.

Amelia lives outside 24/7 now, but could probably benefit from being stall kept at least during the hotter months when fly stomping is at its worst. She is turned out with both mares and geldings, and tends to have a dominant yet fair stance with her herd mates. She is good for both the vet and farrier. Due to her clubbed foot, she would do best with a farrier experienced with corrective trimming/shoeing for that type of issue. Amelia's owner will update her on vaccinations and Coggins prior to her going to her new home.
