Urgently seeking a new home:

Meet Marjorie L, affectionately known as Monkey, a 19-year-old bay Thoroughbred mare with a storied lineage as a great-granddaughter of Secretariat. While she never raced due to a gate accident and a discovered heart murmur, Monkey has more than made up for it with her remarkable personality and unique ability to connect with people.

Monkey is sweet, sassy, and full of charm—a true people-loving horse. Her nature shines brightest when she’s around children, particularly those with special needs or trauma. Monkey has an uncanny ability to sense when someone needs extra care and attention. In her camp days, she clearly preferred children who had been through difficult experiences, nurturing and supporting them in ways that defy explanation.

One of her most heartwarming accomplishments was guiding an autistic college student, who had no riding experience, on a peaceful 5-mile wooded trail ride without any issues. Monkey has also participated in light riding with children at camp but hasn’t been ridden regularly in recent years, only briefly a couple of times since 2015.

Monkey would make a wonderful companion horse or could potentially return to light riding with proper evaluation and conditioning. She thrives on interaction and would do well in a home where her sweet nature and affinity for people can continue to shine.
