Numenor ("Rory") is a solid, handsome 2013, 16.2h Trakehner gelding seeking a home as a companion, potentially a riding horse with further diagnostics. Rory was bred and raised in Alabama. At some point, around the time when he turned 3, he sustained a mystery injury to his right scapula that lead to a blemish in his shoulder, but he was sound. He was given sufficient time to heal and then his owner bought him in 2019 as a project horse. He was started under saddle and the aim was to move him into dressage/eventing. However, shortly after putting him into consistent work, Rory started exhibiting under saddle behavior that made it unclear if it was related to pain or lack of respect. He was sent to a professional trainer, who soon started exhibiting the same behaviors and suggested it was pain-related, so Rory was checked by a vet. It was determined upon a lameness exam that Rory was showing neurological signs, so his training and riding ceased at that point. Rory is now looking for a home with someone who could invest some time into him doing more on the ground, like liberty or trick training. With further diagnostics (imaging was never done upon original examination), it may be determined that Rory could possibly be ridden again. However, that is not a guarantee and his owner wants to ultimately make sure he finds a home where someone will be happy and devoted to him, as is.

Rory is an obviously intelligent horse who would do well with someone wanting to think outside the box to keep him mind busy and engaged. His owner has been doing more training with him on the ground lately, dabbling in liberty work. We got to witness him go at the walk, trot and canter off-lead, as well as stops, turns and backing up. He was full of pep and energy during that brief session and it had been weeks since it was last practiced with him. So clearly he retains what he is taught and seems to really enjoy the work.

Rory requires an intermediate handler. He's very well-behaved for the most part, but does know that he's a big boy and will sometimes use that to his advantage. He cross-ties, is good in a stall or can live out 24/7. He is good for the farrier and has solid, beautiful hooves. He's never worn shoes since his owner has had him. Rory can be a bit nervous with the vet, but he may be able to be worked through that anxiety with more desensitization and ground work. He's good for baths, fly spray and loading. Rory is kept with geldings only and chooses to be a more dominant member of the herd.

Rory is free to an excellent home. If you'd like to add this beautiful boy to your herd and give him a safe, forever home, inquire about him today!
