WHAT: Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR), a nationally-recognized animal welfare nonprofit organization that ensures quality care and treatment of horses through intervention, education, and outreach, is celebrating National Reading Month with a read-a-thon throughout the month of March. Many families and children are still stuck at home and our farm continues to be closed to the public, so we want to engage our followers, supporters, and horse lovers to destress, learn, grow, and get inspired by reading for a cause. DEFHR’s Read 4 the Horses Read-A-Thon is open to all ages, all abilities, and all skill levels. Each reader is encouraged to ask family, friends, or coworkers to join them on their journey to Read 4 the Horses by pledging a dollar per page, or per book/periodical, or a lump sum donation. All money raised will go towards supporting the horses at DEFHR throughout their journey of recovery and finding their forever family. Readers will receive tiered “prizes” based on their level of participation with reading to DEFHR horses in person as top prize (COVID restrictions implemented as appropriate)!
WHY: Due to COVID-19, DEFHR has had to temporarily close its facility to all in person educational and outreach events and classes. The remote nature of the Read 4 the Horses Read-a-Thon enables DEFHR to continue to carry out its mission of educating and connecting with the community about horses, while also raising funds to help horses in need.
WHEN: The Read 4 the Horses Read-a-Thon will launch on March 1, 2021 and end on March 31, 2021. Prize winners will be notified by April 14, 2021.
WHERE: Anywhere you can read! Read a book. Read on a tablet. Read the newspaper or a magazine. Read silently, to friends or family, to yourself or your pets — virtually for safely in-person. All reading counts!
COST: There is no cost to participate however, getting sponsored to read is encouraged.
