The Saint (aka "Simon") is a tall, dark and handsome 1999, 17.1h Canadian Warmblood gelding who would make a great pleasure/trail or companion horse for a confident intermediate rider and intermediate handler. Simon was well on his way to making it big time in the show world before circumstances caused him to change owners. He has more recently been enjoying rides 1-2x/week in the ring, as well as occasionally out on the trail. Simon's owner wants to find him a home where he can enjoy the slower pace of life with an owner not seeking to compete, but just spend time with him taking leisurely rides.

When we arrived to visit Simon, he was quietly waiting for us in his stall, away from his two herd mates who were still turned out. He was pulled out of his stall and cross-tied for grooming. He stood well for grooming all over. He picked up all four hooves with ease. Simon was well-behaved for tacking up and stood quietly for mounting, although he did walk off right after. Simon did make some grouchy faces for things like currying his girth and forearms, girthing up and mounting, but his owner said it's all "talk" and he never follows through. His owner was careful to give him a 15-minute warm-up to loosen him up. We feel this is a wise decision for Simon, as he did start off a little stiff, particularly in the left hind. This is most likely due to some chronic dermatitis he has had in that leg.  After his warm-up, Simon went well at the walk/trot/canter in both directions.

Simon's has primarily been ridden in the ring, with occasional rides in a neighboring field. He's not as confident on the trail, therefore would do best with an intermediate or above rider who could give him that support when needed. Simon could also be a great companion for other geldings.

Simon is good for the vet and farrier, loads, bathes and sprays. He has no vices. Simon does require front shoes if ridden, but may be able to go barefoot if kept as a companion only. He is a moderate keeper and is currently getting Previcox daily. Simon has dealt with chronic dermatitis on his left hind leg that has turned into cellulitis 1-2x/year during warm and wet seasons, but clears up with antibiotics. As a result, it is recommended that he be managed in a stall or in a way as to keep the skin on that lower leg clean and dry. Simon is UTD on everything and ready to move on to his new home.

If you feel Simon may be the one for you, inquire about him today and let us know!
