This beautifully kind chap is a 15.2h 2007 Thoroughbred gelding. He has the most pleasant disposition and calmness about him. Such a joy to spend time with and one of those horses you immediately fall in love with. He is looking for a perfect home and person to give him a place to become a welcomed and enjoyed companion horse. He is very easy going, but has that lovely brightness and intelligence that TB’s bring with them. This guy has way more to offer than just being a beautiful lawn ornament. He loves children and all people alike. His current owner would be thrilled to see him go to a home that adores him as much as she and her family does.
Pickles was diagnosed with Kissing Spine in July 2021. After x-rays confirmed his condition, his current veterinarian advised full retirement. His current owner reported that he only showed signs of discomfort by kicking out after a collected canter. Otherwise he was a true gentleman and kept his issues to himself. A new home would need to honor and respect the fact that retirement is the kindest option for Pickles. He currently is comfortable, with no reaction or sensitively at all to palpation.
Pickles has an impressive past career being purchased recently from Aiken, SC in Feb 2021 and brought up to MD. He has tons of experience in Hunter/Jumper, Eventing, Foxhunting and Trails. It’s easy to see why he is such a well-rounded chap for handling and spending time with. He was super for haltering, grooming, general handling and crossties. He checked every box on our list. His owner did state that he has been a little wary, as of late, to go into a wash stall. Mainly because she felt he associated that space with being worked. Obviously now, we know that he was internally having issues with that side of life. We saw him happily going in to the wash stall on the day of our visit.
Pickles currently lives in a small herd with one Haflinger gelding and a mini donkey. He has full turnout, with access to a large run-in shed. He prefers to have company in the paddock, as most horses do, and can get a little unsettled if the other horse is taken out and away from him, but his behavior is by no means severe. He lives at a lovely private home that also has free ranges chickens. He is more of a leader in the field but remains considerate to his herd mates. He is up to date with the farrier, dentist, vet visit, Coggins and vaccinations. He is currently barefoot. He comes with all blankets if needs be.
