Opal is an adorable large pony mare offered for adoption as a non-riding companion horse. She came to DEFHR last year after living among a feral herd, with no previous human handling. Opal has grown in leaps and bounds in a training program, but has shown us that she would be happiest on the ground, connecting with one person. Opal enjoys positive reinforcement training, including targeting and basic liberty work. She is thoughtful and aware, very intelligent, and quiet in nature. She would make a fantastic babysitter for a younger or older horse, as she is very quiet out in the herd. She is easy to catch, lead, groom, bathe, trailer, etc. Opal stands quiet for the farrier and vet (great for needles). Overall, Opal is easy to manage and would love to find her special person to continue growing and connecting with!
