Fresh Slate is a stunning 2002, 15.2h OTTB gelding looking to find a home where he can live out the rest of his days as a companion, possibly a light riding horse for flatwork or low level Dressage. Slate retired from the track as a 4-year-old after 10 starts and only $525 in career earnings. With his current owner, Slate has spent many years as a show horse, competing at up to 3' and some eventing. He has also been used in lessons for upper intermediate to advanced riders. An injury to his left front medial suspensory ligament ended his jumping career and he has been resting for the past year.

When we arrived at our visit with Slate, he was "dancing" in the cross-ties. He stands quietly, but passes his time gettin' jiggy with it. He was well-behaved for grooming and picked up all four feet with ease. After talking to his owner about his injury, we decided to lightly lunge him to assess his soundness. We just have to say that Slate was such a good boy for being out of work for a year! He picked up the w/t/c on the lunge line with ease, was sound and carried himself very well for being unconditioned. We returned to the wash stall so Slate could get his blanket on and go out. He was a little fussy with the blanket, but decided to take it out on the cross-tie, mouthing and pulling on it. He walked quietly out to his field and joined his buddies with no issues at all.

Slate's owner would like him to go to a home that will want him primarily as a companion, but would be open to someone wanting to lightly ride him on the flat or doing some low level dressage. He  will need to be reconditioned, considering his age and how long he's been out of work. Slate is not a fan of trails, but has been ridden around bridlepaths at his farm without issue.

Slate is barefoot, lives outside 24/7 with a blanket, and gets along well with both mares and geldings. Where he falls in the herd depends on his herd mates. He is good for the vet and farrier, and is UTD on everything. Slate will go to his new home with his blanket and halter. If you think you can give a wonderful home to this handsome boy, let us know your interested and inquire today!
