County is a well-bred, large boned beautiful Thoroughbred Mare born in 2000 and standing at 16.1hh, plus some. This lady is a complete blank canvas. Please do not, for one second let, her age fool you. She has lived a lovely gentle life with daily handling and care, but has never been started under saddle. She is home bred and has been very much loved by her aged owner and grown daughter. She has a great deal more to give to someone for many many years. She is looking for a home that will provide her with one-on-one attention, love and care. Someone skilled and talented in starting horses the right way is a must. This fine girl will likely become a wonderful riding horse for someone that can provide time for her in this way.
Family circumstances and a crisis many many years ago meant that County was not able to begin her riding career at the ‘usual’ time. She is 100% sound with a great mindset, brightness and calm intelligence. With a softer and kind-to-her life, she is free of any past injury or illness. She is a mild cribber but is controlled fully with a collar. With more activity, the urge for cribbing will likely reduce. We did not see her crib at all during our visit.
County of course liked to show us that she is indeed a mare (or just a tad opinionated) during her assessment. She pinned her ears a tiny bit when being caught in the stall, and then mildly kicked out when having her hind feet picked. Once haltered she proved that she was ‘just kidding’, and very much enjoyed being groomed and handled.
In preparation for her finding her new home she was recently introduced to the saddle and some light work in hand on a small circle in the ring. She showed a great mindset paired with focus and a desirable work ethic. She trotted in hand beautifully with a lovely steady length to her stride. She has great conformation and has the best bare feet you could hope for. She is a very easy keeper.
She currently lives in a small herd with two geldings. One of which is her full brother and the other her boyfriend (well at least he thinks so). She is submissive in the herd, avoids conflict and has good self-preservation. She is bare foot and will likely need Fall shots, dental visit and updated Coggins before heading off to her new home. Ideally her owner would love to see her go with her full brother ‘Squire” who is just as nice as she. He has the added little bonus of being started under saddle lightly at the walk trot and canter in the ring, and wandering at the walk around farm.
County’s owner is willing to consider out of State to the right home and is also negotiable on her list price.
