Meet Bella Mia, an absolutely beautiful ~2008, 14.2h Morab mare looking for a home willing to invest in finishing her training and bringing out her full potential. When Mia's owner purchased her from Moore's three years ago, she was thin with overgrown hooves. Her owner did a fabulous job of rehabilitating her and has since invested a lot of time and finances into her care, training and overall well-being. She received roughly 30-days professional training last year, working both on the ground and under saddle, and taking her out on trails. Mia has been ridden sparsley this past winter and was last ridden two weeks prior to our visit with her.
When we visited with Mia, she had only been at her current boarding facility for a little over one month. Considering the place was fairly new to her and her gelding buddy was calling for her the entire time she was out of the field, she did remarkably well. Though a bit wiggly, she straight tied well for grooming and tacking up. Her owner said she can be a little shy around her hind end, so she takes it slow with her and doesn't have an issue. She picked up all four feet, accepted the bridle with ease and, after a little sidestep, accepted the saddle without issue as well.
Mia is still green under saddle, but we can tell with more time and miles, she's going to be a fabulous riding horse. Her owner lunged her at the walk/trot for a few minutes before getting on. She sometimes has difficulty standing at the mounting block, so she was held for mounting and did very well. We watched Mia go at the walk/trot under saddle. She appeared sound and definitely has more-go-than-whoa. There were turkeys and other fowl on the neighboring property making all sorts of noises, by which she was completely unfazed. She really seemed to be enjoying herself quite a bit and would probably love to have a job!
Mia would do best with a confident intermediate handler and rider who would be willing to invest the patience and time into building her confidence and bringing out her full potential. She's not one to poke, so she'd probably do great with someone looking to trail/pleasure ride with a little more get-up-and-go. She's been out on the trail with a group before and done very well, but her owner said she can be a bit "looky" when out alone. We feel that getting her out and exposed to more things will build her self-confidence to the point where she'll eventually really rock the trail. Her owner does not want her being used for lessons, so she'd do best as a one-person horse. Mia will load, but gets very anxious once on the trailer. So she'd be best suited for someone either not looking to trailer off-site or someone willing to put a good bit of time into getting her to relax on the trailer.
Barefoot, an easy-keeper and up-to-date on everything, Mia is ready to go! She stands well for the farrier, but can be nervous for shots, so she needs a vet willing to take their time. Mia is not a fan of a stall and would prefer to live outside 24/7. She has chewed (not cribbed) wood when kept in a smaller paddock with limited grass, but does not chew wood when turned out on larger pasture. She's been kept with both mares and geldings. She tends to be middle of the pecking order with mares but rules the roost with the boys. She's only blanketed during the harshest of winter weather. Mia will be sent to her new home with her halters, blankets and possibly other supplies.
