Bar Tab ("Chester) is a handsome 2000, 16h registered Thoroughbred liver chestnut gelding seeking a home as a companion or training project. Don't let this boy's age fool you. He still has plenty of pep in his step and miles left in the tank. Chester was purchased as a yearling by his current owner and never raced. Due to moving out of state, his owner needs to find him a new home where he can live out his days.

Chester stood quietly in the barn aisle to be groomed in-hand, but he did get pushy and anxious when we took him out of his routine to get photos. Based on this, we'd recommend that he is best suited for a strong intermediate handler at this time. Once he's worked with on a more regular basis, he may be suitable for a less experienced handler. Chester was started under saddle, both English and Western, at a couple of local barns. He was also started over low fences. It's now been many years since Chester was last ridden, so he will need some extent of a refresher if he's to get back into riding again. We would recommend him for an advanced rider, or someone working with a professional trainer, at least until he's going consistently again. We observed him as sound and comfortable as he ran and played around his paddock, acting at least 10 years younger than he actually is! As excited as he was, he settled down enough to be caught and brought back inside to his stall. As soon as he was back in his stall, he quietly and contentedly went back to his hay.

Chester is barefoot, a moderate keeper and gets along well with other geldings. It's unknown how he'd be with a mare, but has met them over the fence without issue. He LOVES his stall! He does have a sensitivity to bugs during the warmer months, so Chester would do best in a home where he could have access to a stall when it's particularly buggy and muggy outside. Keeping him stalled during particularly nasty winter weather, as well as giving him all the hay he could possibly want, has enabled him to go unblanketed during the colder months. His owner is willing to get him updated on shots and Coggins before he leaves for his new home. He will also need a dental float in the near future. He is updated on deworming and farrier care.

Chester's owner is willing to send him to his new home with many of his things, including grooming supplies, halter, lead rope and dewormer. A saddle may also be a possibility, if needed.

If you can give Chester a nice cushy lifestyle for the rest of his days, or are looking for a good project horse, consider giving him a home. Send us an inquiry today!
